Study tests a jaw nerve block in healthy people

This trial studies how a “temporomasseteric nerve block” (a numbing shot near jaw muscles) works in healthy volunteers. It’s mainly looking at safety and how people respond—so it’s not for treating an existing jaw pain condition.

Who can take part

  • Be 18 to 64 years old
  • Speak and read English well enough to answer questions
  • Have never been diagnosed with TMD (jaw joint/muscle pain disorder)
  • In the past 30 days, you must NOT have jaw or temple pain or jaw stiffness on waking
  • In the past 3 months, have fewer than 5 headaches per month and use no nightguard or mouth splint
  • Be able to avoid other exclusions: no recent jaw/face surgery (within 6 months), no braces now, not pregnant or nursing, and no serious heart, kidney, lung problems, uncontrolled diabetes/high blood pressure, seizures, thyroid overactivity, substance abuse, major psychiatric illness needing hospitalization, or cancer treatments (chemo/radiation)
