Who can take part
- Be 18 to 65 years old
- Have type 2 diabetes diagnosed within the last 10 years
- Recent diabetes control: HbA1c less than 9%
- Currently take diabetes medicines but not insulin (for example metformin, GLP-1 shots/pills, or SGLT2 tablets), and your doses have been stable for 3 months
- Have body mass index (BMI) in the obesity range (about 30 to 34.9, or lower for people in Asian populations: 27.5 to 32.5)
- Be able to follow study visits, diet follow-up, and signed consent; you must agree to random assignment to a treatment group
