Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older and currently admitted to the ICU
  • You need a procedure that requires general anesthesia or sedation
  • You already have a breathing tube (cuffed endotracheal tube or cuffed tracheostomy tube) in place
  • You should not have a known stomach/upper GI anatomy problem that blocks accurate ultrasound estimates
  • You should not have a stomach perforation (a hole in the stomach)
  • You should not be pregnant beyond the first trimester
