Who can take part
- Your child is at least 1 month old and younger than 3 years (with extra rules for those under 3 months).
- This is the child’s first urinary tract infection, confirmed by urine findings and a urine culture.
- The urine must be collected properly (not using a urine bag).
- Your child’s infection must be treated starting with ceftriaxone and/or amikacin (given as the first antibiotics).
- The bacteria must be one main type, sensitive to the starting antibiotic, and also sensitive to cefixime or cotrimoxazole.
- Your child must have no kidney abscess on ultrasound and no certain kidney/urinary birth differences.
- You (the parent/guardian) must be able to give written consent and have reliable follow-up at the study center.
