Who can take part
- You are female.
- You have high blood pressure after delivery, or you already had high blood pressure after pregnancy and need medicine.
- Your blood pressure has been high enough to need treatment (for example, systolic 140+ or diastolic 90+ on two readings at least 4 hours apart, or systolic 160+ or diastolic 110+ lasting more than 15 minutes).
- You can safely take either nifedipine or labetalol (no allergy or other reason you cannot take them).
- Your heart rate is between 60 and 110 beats per minute.
- You do not have certain heart/lung conditions (like moderate persistent asthma, coronary artery disease, or heart failure).
