Study for treating calcium blockages in leg artery disease

Chronic Total Occlusion of Artery of the Extremities

This trial tests a treatment approach for certain long-lasting, calcium-heavy blockages in the leg arteries that have no normal blood flow past the blockage. If you have these “total occlusions” and symptoms like walking pain or critical limb symptoms, this study may offer a new way to open the artery and restore blood flow.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for a procedure to treat a new (de-novo) blockage in the native leg artery: either infrainguinal (CaTO-PAD) or below-the-knee arteries (CaTO-BTK).
  • You have at least one chronic total blockage where there is little/no flow beyond the blockage except for blood coming from collateral branches.
  • Your symptoms in the target leg match the study’s category (clove walking-limiting pain or critical limb symptoms).
  • Your target blockage has moderate-to-severe calcium and has NOT opened with a standard guidewire attempt (a guidewire “failed” to cross).
