Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- Your Bell’s palsy is severe—your facial weakness is at least level 4 (House-Brackmann IV) or worse
- Your symptoms started between 5 and 15 days ago (after your first course of steroid treatment)
- You can safely get an MRI scan (no MRI safety issues)
- You can take the standard treatment if assigned (prednisone for 5 days and valaciclovir for 7 days) or are not medically barred from it
- You can do facial physical therapy about 2 times per week plus daily home exercises
