Who can take part
- You are 18 to 75 years old
- You can give informed consent
- You have long-term (chronic) hepatitis that has caused cirrhosis
- You have esophageal varices and already had endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) for prevention or after bleeding, or bleeding gastric varices treated with a glue injection
- Your platelet count is not dangerously low (not under 50,000) and your Child-Pugh score is not Class C, unless corrected as allowed by the study
