Electrical stimulation therapy for brain and arm recovery after stroke

This trial tests whether painless electrical nerve stimulation placed on the skin can improve thinking (cognitive function) and arm movement in people living with long-term stroke. If you qualify, you may receive this non-drug therapy and be assessed for changes in memory/thinking and upper-limb movement.

Who can take part

  • You are between 50 and 80 years old.
  • You had one stroke at least 6 months ago.
  • You can move the stronger (non-paretic) arm on purpose, and your affected (paretic) shoulder has at least minimal ability to lift against gravity.
  • You do not have a pacemaker or a cochlear (ear) implant.
  • You do not have another neurological condition besides stroke.
  • You are not in another treatment study/program and you do not have a skin wound, infection, or inflammation where the device would be placed.
