Who can take part

  • You are in an ICU setting and currently receiving continuous stomach-tube feeding.
  • Your feeding provides more than 80% of your estimated daily energy needs via a nasogastric tube or gastrostomy.
  • You are not fed through a post-belly (postpyloric) route like a jejunostomy or postpyloric tube.
  • You should have a remaining ICU stay of at least 12 hours (if you’re in the ICU).
  • There should be no active bleeding needing procedures or large amounts of blood transfusion in the last day.
  • You must be able to use the feeding tube and also have an arterial line (a small tube in an artery for monitoring).
