Exercises to help children with fainting and blood-pressure drops

This study tests whether teaching special standing/balance movements can reduce fainting episodes in children who have recurring vasovagal fainting or certain forms of POTS. Who can take part

  • Be 6 to 18 years old and speak English well enough for the study
  • Have recurrent fainting in the last year: at least two episodes with loss of consciousness or nearly fainting
  • Have a fainting cause thought to be vasovagal or POTS, confirmed by a children’s heart doctor
  • Not have certain medical problems that can mimic fainting (for example abnormal heart rhythm, major heart structure problems, or seizures/epilepsy that are new or returning)
  • Not take medications that affect heart rate or blood pressure (including common fainting/POTS medicines like fludrocortisone, beta-blockers, midodrine, or slow-release salt)
