Breathing and nerve signaling study for POTS and fainting

Postural Tachycardia Syndrome

This study looks at how improving “vagal nerve” function—through breathing-related training—may change brain connectivity in people with POTS, near-fainting, or fainting upon standing. It’s meant to better understand whether these changes could help symptoms and inform future treatments.

Who can take part

  • You’re between 18 and 50 years old
  • You’ve been diagnosed with POTS, orthostatic intolerance, syncope, or near-syncope
  • You can speak and read English
  • You have a first-time (new patient) visit at the VCU Comprehensive Autonomics Center scheduled at least 1 week from now
  • You do not have certain other autoimmune, neurological, or chronic inflammatory conditions
  • You’re able to safely complete the study tasks, including possible breathing training and MRI (if needed)
