Who can take part

  • Be between 18–30 and lean (BMI 18.5–24.9) or obese (BMI 30–39.9), or be 65+ and obese (BMI 30–39.9)
  • Live in the community and do no more than about 1.5 hours of exercise per week
  • Not have diabetes (your glucose and A1c must be in normal ranges, and you can’t take diabetes medicines)
  • Have an ECG heart test with acceptable timing values and a “normal” tracing (per study review)
  • Avoid major health conditions like active autoimmune/inflammatory disease, significant heart disease, lung disease like COPD, or recent blood clots
  • No pregnancy or breastfeeding, and for people who could become pregnant, use a highly effective birth-control plan
