Who can take part
- Be at least 18 years old with a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of malignant pleural mesothelioma (epithelioid or non-epithelioid).
- Your cancer must be in only one side of the chest (one hemithorax) with no spread to the other side and no distant spread (N0–N1, M0).
- You must be able to choose “active surveillance” (watching closely) instead of starting chemotherapy or needing surgery right now, unless cancer grows later.
- Your breathing/lung tests must be strong enough (post-test FEV1 and DLCO/TLCO each must be at least 40% of predicted).
- Your general health score (WHO performance status) must be 0–1, meaning you’re fully active or limited but able to care for yourself.
- You must be able to travel to a proton center if assigned (UCLH or The Christie) and agree to follow-up at local trial sites.
