Etidronate treatment for brain calcifications in Fahr disease

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have been diagnosed (or are being diagnosed) with Fahr disease or syndrome based on symptoms and a brain CT scan showing abnormal calcifications.
  • Your head CT shows calcifications in specific brain areas, and the amount is higher than what’s expected for your age.
  • You can take the study medicine by mouth and your esophagus works well enough to swallow it.
  • Your calcium and vitamin D blood tests are not too low (they can be corrected first).
  • You have no major kidney problems and you have no allergy to etidronate.
