Testing pressure support to ease breathing muscle work

Who can take part

  • You are on a ventilator and have been intubated (tube in the windpipe) for more than 24 hours.
  • You are in the ventilator weaning phase (doctors are trying to reduce/stop ventilator support).
  • You do not have a bleeding problem (for example, blood clotting tests are not too high and platelets are not too low).
  • Your circulation is stable (you are not needing high doses of blood-pressure medicine).
  • You do not have very severe lung disease (lung-function measure is above the trial’s cut-off).
