Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) in the ICU for more than 48 hours.
  • Your doctor expects you will still need the breathing tube for at least another day.
  • You are on a specific ventilator mode with at least a low level of support.
  • You are calm and responsive, not overly agitated or too sleepy.
  • Your blood oxygen and acid levels are stable and within normal range.
  • You or your legal representative agree to participate in writing.
