Testing blood samples to study multiple myeloma

This study looks at stored blood (serum) samples to see whether a lab test called MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry can help analyze multiple myeloma proteins. If you have multiple myeloma (or are a healthy matched control), your existing lab samples may be used for testing.

Who can take part

  • You have a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, and your serum sample can be tested
  • Your sample should have related test results already done (like SPEP and IFE) and enough information to match
  • If you are a control, you must be generally healthy with a normal exam
  • Avoid controls with major ongoing illnesses recently, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease
  • Your sample must have complete, traceable information and be properly stored
  • There must be enough blood sample volume left for testing
