Inflammation and blood flow in widened heart arteries

Coronary Artery Ectasia

This study looks at markers of inflammation and blood flow (ischemia) in people with a rare condition called coronary artery ectasia, where the heart arteries are widened instead of narrowed. You may qualify if you are already scheduled for a routine angiogram to check for heart artery problems.

Who can take part

  • You have suspected coronary artery disease and are scheduled for a routine coronary angiogram (a test that uses dye and X-rays to see your heart arteries).
  • You have never had a heart attack (myocardial infarction) or been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy (a weakened heart muscle).
  • You have not had a recent heart attack or unstable angina (acute coronary syndrome) in the last few weeks.
  • You do not have severe kidney disease (kidney failure or on dialysis).
  • You have not had bypass heart surgery (CABG) in the past.
  • You are able to walk and do daily activities without major physical limitations.
