Who can take part
- You are an adult being treated in an ICU
- You have been on a breathing machine for at least 5 days
- A lung sample test confirms ventilator-associated pneumonia with bacteria that are sensitive to cotrimoxazole
- You already received at least 24 hours of an appropriate “first” antibiotic that is working for this pneumonia
- Your blood pressure and breathing are stable or improving (oxygen needs not getting worse)
- You can take cotrimoxazole safely and are not pregnant or breastfeeding
