Who can take part
- You are pregnant with one baby (singleton) and are between 34 weeks 0 days and 36 weeks 5 days.
- Your care team thinks you are likely to deliver during the “late preterm” window (about 34 to 37 weeks). This may be due to labor symptoms, broken water, or another reason delivery may be needed within 24 hours to 7 days.
- You have not already had a full course of the steroid shot betamethasone during this pregnancy.
- You should not be expected to deliver in less than 12 hours, or if you are, certain urgent situations (like very fast labor, suspected infection of the womb, or concerning baby heartbeat) would exclude you.
- You currently do not have a known or suspected infection, and you have not had a hospital/antibiotics for an infection in the past month; you also do not have diabetes that began before pregnancy.
