Dexamethasone to Prevent Lung Problems in Premature Babies

Who can take part

  • Baby was born between 24 weeks and 29 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy.
  • Baby has been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 14 days.
  • Baby needs a lot of extra oxygen (more than 40%) and a specific breathing machine setting for at least 24 hours before starting the study.
  • Baby has not received any other steroid medications before this study.
  • Baby does not have a lung infection from the ventilator, a serious birth defect, or a weak immune system.
