Fetal surgery study for complex gastroschisis safety

Gastroschisis

This trial tests whether a specialized fetal operation is safe and practical for babies with a serious form of gastroschisis (bowel outside the belly) and swollen bowel. You may be considered if the pregnancy is otherwise free of major related problems and the family is ready for follow-up after birth.

Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old and can legally consent for yourself
  • Your pregnancy is one baby (not twins or more)
  • Ultrasound shows gastroschisis, and the baby’s bowel is at least 8 mm dilated at 20–24 weeks
  • There are no major added birth defects found on ultrasound or MRI
  • You must be between 20 weeks 0 days and 27 weeks 6 days at the time of the procedure
  • You agree to genetic testing during pregnancy (amniocentesis or CVS) and decline early termination before 24 weeks
