Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 90 years old
  • If you have swallowing trouble, your high-resolution esophagus pressure test must be normal
  • You must not have had certain recent head and neck cancer treatments
  • You should not have muscle or nerve/muscle-communication diseases (like muscular dystrophy or myasthenia gravis)
  • You must not be allergic to lidocaine or barium
  • You must be able to use the exerciser by yourself or with a caregiver
