Who can take part

  • Be age 20 or older
  • You are either a healthy volunteer or have one of these: metabolic syndrome, certain heart failure, severe aortic stenosis, or a recent acute ischemic stroke (within 24 hours)
  • If you have metabolic syndrome, you must meet several specific health markers (waist size, blood sugar, HDL, triglycerides, and/or blood pressure or treatments)
  • If you have had a stroke, you must be admitted to a stroke ICU within 24 hours of symptom onset, and your disability score must be low (mRS less than 2 before the stroke)
  • You should not be receiving treatment for active cancer, immunosuppressing medicines, or be too unwell to do the required tests (including thinking/memory testing and activity walking/questionnaire)
  • You must be able to cooperate with the scanning/tests that use a 3E combo machine (and be able to complete the required neuro and activity evaluations)
