Who can take part

  • Be age 40 or older
  • Have COPD that is confirmed or strongly suspected (ongoing breathing symptoms and risk factors like smoking)
  • Be admitted to the ICU (or a respiratory intensive care unit)
  • Have a severe sudden COPD flare with signs of breathing distress and/or high carbon dioxide
  • Not have asthma as your main diagnosis
  • Agree to participate (no refusal of consent)
