Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • Your leg injury is an open tibia fracture (the wound is open to the outside) and it is Type II or Type III.
  • Your fracture is planned to be fixed with an intramedullary nail (a rod placed inside the bone).
  • You are not allergic to vancomycin or tobramycin (antibiotics).
  • You do not have high blood calcium (hypercalcemia).
  • You can speak English or Spanish, and you can be reached by email or phone (or another contact method).
