Antibiotic beads versus negative pressure dressing for severe leg fractures

This Phase 3 study compares two ways to help heal a severe open tibia (shin bone) fracture and prevent complications like infection. If you qualify, you may receive antibiotic beads or a negative pressure wound therapy dressing after urgent wound cleaning.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have a severe open tibia fracture that needs more than one deep cleaning (irrigation and debridement).
  • Your fracture treatment will include fixing the bone with hardware (internal or external fixation).
  • You had formal surgical debridement (wound cleaning) within 72 hours of the injury.
  • All planned fracture surgeries will be done by a participating surgeon or their team.
  • A study team member can get your informed consent.
