Who can take part
- You have confirmed rectal cancer based on biopsy results
- Your cancer is locally advanced (for example, cT3–cT4) with no spread to distant organs
- Your medical team plans for you to have pre-surgery chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy, then surgery if possible
- You are well enough for treatment (performance status ECOG 0 to 2)
- You can safely have MRI and PET scan, and the study medicines (including chemo drugs like 5-FU, oxaliplatin, or irinotecan)
- If you can become pregnant: you agree to effective birth control and have a negative pregnancy test
