Treating insomnia to improve weight loss after breast cancer

This study looks at whether improving insomnia (trouble falling asleep or staying asleep) can help survivors of breast cancer lose weight more successfully through a structured behavioral weight loss program. It may help if sleep problems are making it harder to change eating and activity habits.

Who can take part

  • You are a woman, age 18 or older
  • You have breast cancer history: DCIS or stage I–III invasive breast cancer, diagnosed within the last 10 years
  • You finished local treatment (and any planned chemo/targeted therapy) at least 3 months ago, and any surgeries are done more than 4 weeks before starting
  • You have insomnia disorder for at least 3 months (and your sleep symptoms happen at least 3 nights per week)
  • Your BMI is 25 or higher and your current weight is 400 pounds or less, and you are willing to try to lose 10% of your body weight
  • You’re not currently in another sleep or weight-loss program and you can’t have certain serious medical/psychiatric problems
