Kava to help quit smoking by easing stress and sleep issues

Who can take part

  • Be age 21 to 75, and currently smoke at least 5 cigarettes per day for the past year
  • Plan to quit smoking right now (at the screening visit)
  • Have an expired-air carbon monoxide level above 8 ppm at enrollment
  • Have access to a working phone and be able to stay in the study area for about 4 months
  • Not be enrolled in another smoking-cessation program and be willing to sign consent
  • If you are able to have children, agree to reliable birth control during the study
  • Do not have certain liver problems or recent serious cancer; also avoid alcohol/acetaminophen that could harm the liver
