Exercise training for people with hypertrophic heart muscle
Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This study tests whether a 24-week exercise program can improve exercise tolerance in people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a thickened heart muscle). You may be asked to use phone-based tools and complete surveys during training.

Who can take part
- Be age 18 to 80, and have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy confirmed by an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound)
- Have a low-to-moderate outflow “pressure/gradient” (less than 30 mmHg) at rest and during provocation tests
- Have a heart pumping strength (ejection fraction) of 50% or higher
- Be able to exercise for 24 weeks and use a smartphone and online surveys
- Have access to exercise equipment at home or a fitness center

This study compares two types of gentle exercises—breathing muscle training and a traditional Chinese movement practice called Baduanjin—to see which helps people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy feel better and improve their daily life. If you have a thickened heart muscle but are stable and have mild symptoms, you may be able to join.
This is an observational study (it mainly tracks what happens over time) for people with thickened heart muscle due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. You may be eligible if an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) shows the required thickness and you don’t have certain heart valve disease.
This study creates a registry (a detailed record) for people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart muscle is thicker than normal. It aims to learn more about the condition over time.
This study looks for blood and other markers that can explain how people with heart failure respond to exercise training. It may help researchers better tailor exercise or treatment plans for heart failure in the future.
This trial tests a personalized exercise program to help people with a type of heart failure called HFpEF. You may qualify if your heart still pumps well but you have trouble being active, and you are willing to use a phone app and exercise regularly.
This trial tests whether high-intensity interval training can improve heart function and fitness in people with a type of heart failure where the heart pumps normally but doesn't fill properly. You will do supervised exercise sessions to see if it helps you feel better and be more active.
