Who can take part

  • You have locally advanced rectal cancer with specific high-risk features (like T4a, threatened/close margins, certain lymph node involvement, or blood-vessel involvement).
  • You have not had any prior treatment for rectal cancer.
  • You have not had radiation to the same area before (for example, radiation for the prostate).
  • You can do MRI scans (no MRI safety issues or metal/conditions that prevent MRI).
  • Your overall health score is ECOG 0 or 1 (you are able to function fairly well).
  • You cannot be pregnant, and you must be willing and able to sign consent; you also must be able to take the study drugs (5-FU, capecitabine, and oxaliplatin).
