Who can take part
- You have newly diagnosed rectal adenocarcinoma confirmed by biopsy (no prior cancer treatment).
- Your cancer is stage T3–4 and/or involves nearby lymph nodes (N+), and it can be surgically removed, located within 12 cm of the anus.
- You are age 18 to 70, and you can take part if you are male or a non-pregnant female.
- Your blood counts are high enough (white blood cells, neutrophils, platelets, and hemoglobin).
- Your kidneys and liver are working well enough for chemotherapy (based on lab tests).
- You are able to complete all planned study treatments and do not have serious uncontrolled heart/lung/brain problems.
