Blood and CT tests after a concussion to track brain injury

This study checks whether two blood proteins (GFAP and UCH-L1) can help identify which brain spots are linked to a significant head injury after a concussion. You may be able to help by providing a blood sample and getting a CT scan as part of usual care, so doctors can better sort out injury risk.

Who can take part

  • You had a head injury from impact to the skull/face or sudden speeding up/slowing down
  • Your Glasgow Coma Scale score was 13, 14, or 15 after the injury
  • One of these must apply: age over 65 on anti-platelet medicine, or specific intoxication factors, or a high-risk accident, or memory loss longer than 30 minutes before the injury
  • A blood sample is planned within 12 hours after the injury (as part of your care)
  • A CT scan is prescribed as part of your minor head injury evaluation
  • You can sign an informed consent form
