Who can take part

  • You are 18–65 years old
  • You have a current diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) confirmed by an interview (MINI)
  • Your depression symptom score (HAM-D17) is 16 or higher
  • You have taken an FDA-approved antidepressant in the SSRI/SNRI family for at least 8 weeks and can show good adherence
  • You do not have certain medical conditions (kidney disease, certain bowel problems, uncontrolled lung disease, significant heart rhythm risk, seizures)
