Who can take part

  • Be 5 to 12 years old
  • Be within 3 months of a new diabetes diagnosis
  • If your diagnosis is at least 2 months old, your HbA1c must be 9% or lower while on insulin adjustments
  • Have type 1 diabetes (confirmed by needing insulin right away plus specific diabetes markers or risk factors)
  • Be able and willing for family to learn the plan and follow the study diet education
