Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You can sign informed consent (or have someone legally allowed to help—if not, you may not qualify)
- For MDS: you have been diagnosed with MDS and have ring sideroblasts on a bone marrow test
- For MGUS control participants: you are being evaluated for MGUS as part of standard care or workup
- You have not had red blood cell transfusions in the last 120 days
- You have not used EPO, TPO, or G-CSF (blood-supporting growth factors) in the last 30 days
