  • Be age 1 month to 18 years old
  • Be having congenital open-heart surgery for the first time
  • The surgery must use CPB (a heart-lung machine)
  • Your surgery is expected to take 6 hours or less on the heart-lung machine
  • You are not already on steroid medicines going into surgery
