Who can take part
- You have biopsy-proven rectal adenocarcinoma (a type of rectal cancer).
- Your cancer stage must match one of these patterns: T3–4 with no lymph nodes or distant spread, or T1–4 with limited/allowed lymph node spread but no distant spread.
- Your tumor must have “proficient” DNA mismatch repair on lab testing (a mismatch-repair protein test done on your tumor).
- You are age 18 to 75, and your general functioning score is at least 70.
- The tumor is close to the anus: less than 12 cm from the lower edge of the tumor to the anal opening.
- You must not have prior rectal surgery, prior pelvic radiation, or prior chemotherapy for rectal cancer.
