  • You are 65 years old or older
  • You are scheduled for a planned major surgery (not an emergency) that is expected to last at least 2 hours
  • The surgery is not on your heart
  • You do not have a history of dementia or memory problems
  • You do not have a history of malignant hyperthermia (a rare reaction to anesthesia)
