  • Your risk score for serious complications after surgery is higher than normal
  • You are scheduled for a major heart or blood vessel surgery that requires an overnight hospital stay
  • You can understand and speak English
  • You are willing to participate in memory and thinking tests
  • You agree to receive blood transfusions if needed during surgery
