Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You are having a non-cardiac surgery that is considered intermediate or high risk (not a minor procedure).
  • Your blood test shows a high level of a heart stress marker called NT-proBNP (450 or higher).
  • You do not have severe kidney failure (no dialysis or very low kidney function).
  • Your surgery is expected to last more than 30 minutes.
