Brain and metabolism study on carbohydrate reward

Carbohydrate Metabolism

This study looks at how brain responses and metabolism affect your desire for carbohydrates. Volunteers have MRI scans and taste tests at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute in Roanoke.

Who can take part

  • Your body mass index (BMI) should be between 18.5 and 30.
  • You cannot be pregnant, planning pregnancy, or a current smoker or nicotine user.
  • You must live in the Roanoke area or be able to travel there for study visits.
  • You should not have diabetes, thyroid problems, or take certain medications that affect metabolism.
  • You should not be on a special diet (like low-carb or intermittent fasting) within the last 3 months.
  • You must be comfortable having an MRI scan and not have any metal in your body that would make an MRI unsafe.
