Who can take part

  • Your baby must be in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  • Your baby must be at least 7 days old.
  • Your baby must weigh at least 500 grams (about 1.1 pounds).
  • Your baby must have signs of a possible late-onset infection (like fever, breathing problems, or skin changes).
  • Your baby must not be on antibiotics for a confirmed infection right now or in the past 48 hours.
