Who can take part

  • Newborn between 0 and 28 days old (born at any stage, full-term or premature)
  • Has at least 2 signs that could mean sepsis (like fever, fast or slow heart rate, trouble feeding, drowsiness, or floppy muscles)
  • Parent or guardian agrees in writing to let the baby take part
  • Does NOT have severe birth defects or chromosomal problems
  • Has NOT already had strong antibiotics for more than a day before joining
