Partial tendon cleaning to reduce knee clicking after replacement

This trial studies a partial cleaning procedure on the quadriceps tendon during knee replacement to reduce clicking or rubbing sensation (crepitus). It is only for people getting a specific type of knee implant (posterior-stabilized) and whose kneecap is not replaced.

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled to have a total knee replacement with a specific type of implant called a posterior-stabilized (PS) design.
  • You cannot have had the kneecap replaced (resurfaced) as part of the surgery.
  • You cannot have complications like infection or a bone fracture around the implant.
  • You cannot have large differences between your knees on X-rays or physical exams.
  • You must be willing to stay in the study until follow-up is complete (no loss to follow-up).
  • You cannot have cancelled the surgery or refused to join the study.
