Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus (a type of esophageal cancer).
  • Your cancer has spread to 5 or fewer distant spots (like other organs or lymph nodes), and each spot is smaller than 5 cm.
  • You are in generally good health (able to do daily activities) and have not lost more than 10% of your body weight in the last 6 months.
  • You have not had chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy for any cancer in the past 6 months.
  • Your blood counts, kidney function, and liver function are within acceptable ranges (your doctor can check these).
