Using voice strategies to reduce vocal fold pressure

This study tests different ways of using your voice to reduce pressure on vocal fold lesions caused by overuse. If you are between 18 and 40, have been diagnosed with such lesions, and are going to voice therapy, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 40 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with vocal fold lesions caused by voice overuse or misuse (like nodules or polyps).
  • Your doctor has referred you for voice therapy.
  • You do not have any autoimmune disorders (like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis) except for seasonal allergies or acid reflux.
  • You do not have vocal fold cysts or other lesions that are known to not respond well to voice therapy.
  • You are not claustrophobic and can match the pitches needed for the study.
