  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have been admitted to the hospital with a suspected severe injury (based on specific criteria)
  • You have a certain injury severity score of 9 or higher
  • You have health insurance
  • You or a family member can give permission for the study
  • You do not have long-term kidney disease needing dialysis, chronic lung or heart disease, or an inflammatory disease
